Before reaching the deep canyon swim, you navigate the foothills of the Rincón de la Vieja volcano. The entire route is a 4-kilometer (2.5-mile) round trip that requires moderate physical fitness. You walk on natural dirt paths, climb over rocks, and wade across the river multiple times.

Independent access is prohibited on this trail. A certified local guide leads you through the forest and points out the safest river crossings. Keep your mandatory closed-toe shoes on at all times to avoid injury.
